Jammu: The plan to phase out Army deployment from the interior areas of Jammu province has been postponed indefinitely in view of increasing terror attacks.
The Union Home Ministry and Defense Ministry had prepared a proposal last year. According to this, the role of CRPF and police in anti-terrorist operations and security cover was to be increased while reducing the presence of army from many interior areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the first phase, battalions of the army's Rashtriya Rifles were to be withdrawn from Ganderbal and Budgam, besides Doda-Kishtwar, Rajouri-Poonch in Jammu province and parts of south Kashmir in the Kashmir Valley. However, at this time terrorist incidents are increasing, in view of which it has been decided to postpone this proposal "indefinitely".
