07 February 23: In the run up to the South Western Command Investiture Ceremony on 08 February 23 preparations are in full swing to honour the Gallantry and Distinguished Service award winners for their exemplary service to the Indian Army and the Nation.
The annual Investiture Ceremony is conducted to confer awards to personnel of the Armed Forces who have distinguished themselves by acts of individual gallantry and exceptional devotion to duty. It is also to recognise the bravery, dedication and sacrifice of the armed forces and their families.
The Awards ceremony is scheduled on 08 February at Bathinda Military Station and during the event. Lieutenant General Amardeep Singh Bhinder, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Command will present Gallantry and Distinguished Service Awards, along with COAS Certificate of Appreciation and GOC-in-C Unit Appreciations for exemplary performances. Nine officers, one Junior Commissioned Officer and nine soldiers are being awarded this year in recognition of their exemplary courage and devotion to duty. One gallantry award will also be presented posthumously to the Next of Kin of Sepoy Laxman of 61 Rashtriya Rifles. Five units are being awarded with the COAS Certificate of Appreciation and 15 units will receive the GOC-in-C Unit Appreciation.
As a prelude to the main event an enthralling Multi Activity Display showcasing military traditions, patriotism and skills of the soldiers is being organised on 07 February for the Armed Forces personnel and their families.
