Cop allegedly fires upon man in marriage ceremony in Rajouri

Rajouri May 04: Protest rocked Nowshera township in Rajouri after a local man was fired upon allegedly by a cop who has now been detained by police.

Locals, a large number of whom were attending a marriage ceremony, assembled infront of Thakur Duwara in Nowshera town and started protest.

They said that a marriage ceremony was going on in Thakur Duwara when a local young man and a police personnel entered in verbal duel over the issue of wearing face mask.

Protesters alleged that this duel, the cop chased upon the man and opened fire from his service weapon but young man fortunately escaped unhurt.

" The police personnel chased the man and than opened fire and we have cartridge of bullet with us which is an evidence of incident that took place in the marriage ceremony and infront of many people." the locals.

They further said that not only the young man but other people present in the ceremony also escaped unhurt in the incident. 

They claimed that police personnel who fired upon the man is Personal Security Officer of Chairman of Municipal Committee Nowshera.

Later, Sub Divisional Police Officer Nowshera Zakir Shaheen Mirza reached on the spot and pacified the protest assuring that matter will be investigated and accused will not be spared. On his assurance, protest was called off.

Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Ms. Sheema Qasba said that police is investigating the matter and appropriate action under law will be taken.
