Today Rohtang tunnel is inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and its nomenclature Changed to Atal tunnel. This Tunnel is 9 km long and it will lessen the distance of 46 km from Manali to Leh. It gives all weather road to Leh from Manali and it connects Manali to Lahaul Spiti. This is world's longest highway tunnel and an altitude of 3000 metres above the sea level. This is the ultra modern tunnel in which there are cctv cameras and telephone at a short distance. It will now give an alternative all weather route to Leh and it gives a boost to our defence and lay it gives boost to tourism and the overall development of the Lahaul Spiti area. This tunnel is constructed by Border Road Organization.
