Intensive Anti-Drug Drive Gains Momentum Across Jammu & Kashmir
The ongoing 100-day “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan” has gathered major momentum across the Union Territory, with authorities intensifying their crackdown on drug trafficking and narco-terror networks. The campaign, launched on April 11 under the leadership of Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, is being described as one of the largest anti-drug operations ever conducted in the region.
According to official figures, within the first nearly 40 days of the campaign, law enforcement agencies registered around 614 FIRs and arrested 646 individuals linked to narcotics-related activities. Authorities also seized more than 260 kilograms of narcotic substances during multiple operations carried out across Jammu and Kashmir.
In a strong push against the financial backbone of the drug trade, properties worth over ₹31 crore allegedly linked to drug peddlers and traffickers have been attached or demolished. Security agencies have also launched destruction drives targeting illegal poppy cultivation in various districts to curb local production of narcotics.
LG Manoj Sinha has repeatedly asserted that the drug menace is closely connected with terrorism and cross-border networks attempting to destabilize the region. During several public awareness rallies held under the campaign, he emphasized that protecting the youth from addiction remains a top priority of the administration.
The anti-drug campaign has witnessed active participation from police, civil administration, educational institutions, and local communities. Awareness marches, medical camps, counselling sessions, and anti-drug drives are being organized across districts to educate young people about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Officials believe the coordinated crackdown has significantly disrupted narcotics supply chains operating in the region. The administration has reiterated its commitment to continue strict action against drug traffickers while simultaneously focusing on rehabilitation and awareness initiatives to build a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.
